A rectified tile is a tile that has been mechanically cut and finished after manufacturing to achieve highly precise and consistent dimensions.
Because the edges are carefully trimmed, rectified tiles have straighter, more uniform edges than standard tiles, resulting in a cleaner, more contemporary appearance with narrower grout joints.

What Grout Joint Should Be Used?
Although rectified tiles can be installed with smaller grout joints than non-rectified tiles, they should not be installed without a grout joint.
In accordance with industry standards, we recommend a minimum grout joint of 1/16" for rectified ceramic, porcelain, and polished porcelain tiles.
Can Rectified Tiles Be Installed Butt-Jointed?
No. Even though rectified tiles are manufactured to tighter tolerances, they are not designed to be installed directly against one another without a grout joint.
A grout joint is necessary to:
- Accommodate minor size variations
- Allow for proper installation tolerances
- Reduce the risk of chipping and edge damage
- Meet industry installation standards
Rectified tiles are designed to create a tighter, more refined installation—not a groutless one.
